Security experts are warning that scammers are targeting PayPal with a huge 600 percent increase in attacks seen since the start of the year. Here’s how to stay safe, according to web security experts McAfeee Labs
Security experts have issued a new warning that all PayPal account holders should heed. The widely used payment system is once again being targeted by cybercriminals who are attempting to scam users, after similar warnings were made to Amazon customers.
According to McAfee Labs, there has been a 600 percent increase in PayPal-related attacks since the beginning of the year. The majority of these scams come in the form of emails claiming that accounts have been suspended and urging users to update their details to restore them.
Other fraudulent tactics include counterfeit PayPal gift card offers, bogus invoices, and customer support scams related to billing issues.

McAfee explained: “While PayPal works diligently to protect its users, scammers are constantly evolving their tactics and often capitalize on well-known companies, especially if they’ve been in the news recently.
“The recent surge has been traced to a single, highly effective campaign where attackers send official-looking emails with “Action Required” warnings, demanding users update their account details within 48 hours or face account suspension.”
McAfee advises that it’s now crucial for users to be cautious when opening messages purporting to be from PayPal and to be wary of links to websites that aren’t official PayPal domains, reports the Express.
Additionally, some helpful guidance has been provided, including 10 new rules worth knowing for anyone who has ever set up or used PayPal.
