PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – The Panama City Beach City Council took action to protect children from predators.
The council amended city code to align with state legislation that expanded child-protection restrictions on Thursday.
The new code of ordinances relates to lifeguard permits and registry screenings for sexual offenders and predators, said City Council Member Mary Coburn. It aims to protect children in a public setting.
“Which puts more limits on where individuals can live,” Coburn said following the meeting. “It prohibits them from being adjacent at swimming pools. Any place children congregate.”
The change will limit predators’ ability to interact with children, Coburn said.
