Trichy: Two people were arrested and a search is on for two others for attempting to murder two individuals in a violent clash involving devotees on a foot pilgrimage near Trichy on April 15.According to sources, M Veeramani, 25, from Big Bazaar, and N Haris, 19, from Mannarpillai Street, were on a foot pilgrimage to the Samayapuram Mariamman Temple, on the night of April 14.Around 1.30am on April 15, Veeramani allegedly collided with some devotees who had ritual piercings while they were walking near the Trunk Road close to Thiruvanaikoil. Offended by the collision, the devotees had a heated altercation with Veeramani and Haris. Some of them pulled out sharp weapons and attacked Veeramani and Haris. Both sustained serious injuries on their heads and hands.They were admitted to Trichy government hospital for treatment. Following a complaint from Veeramani, Srirangam police launched an investigation. They obtained footage from surveillance cameras near the Trunk Road and identified the attackers.On Tuesday, two individuals—B Raja, 29, and S Karthikeyan, 19 from Keezhakondayampettai, Trichy district —were arrested. A case was registered at Srirangam police station under 126 (2), 127 (2), 296 (b), 109 (1) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for wrongful restraint, wrongful confinement, abuse and attempted murder.The accused were produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody. Police are searching for two others – Velmurugan and Srikanth.
