POLL: Do you support a social media ban for kids under 16? | #childpredator | #kidsaftey | #childsaftey

Saskatchewan residents are being asked to voice their opinion on limiting the use of social media for kids, more specifically banning children under the age of 16 from using different platforms available.

The early-stage idea has already led to reaction from professionals including Val Caldwell, who is an online safety educator and public speaker that believes while it could be a positive, it will require education, stronger regulation, and accountability from technology companies.

On the positive side, limits could reduce exposure to harmful content, including child sexual exploitation, and give parents more control over their children’s online time. On the other side it’s believed that taking away social media could erase some kid’s ability for positive connections and learning, and that in some cases where a child is using social media against a parents will, age restrictions alone may not be enough.
