Pop-up events to help avoid online scams | #cybercrime | #infosec

In the lead-up to Christmas, police are hosting more pop-up fraud-prevention events to help keep shoppers safe from online scams and fraudulent listings.
Next week, Greater Manchester Police’s Economic Crime Unit is holding drop-in sessions from 10am and 1pm at Virgin Money, 9-11 Yorkshire Street on Tuesday, November 10, and at Halifax, 6/14 Yorkshire Street, on Wednesday, November 11.
GMP shared: “With scams ranging from the simplest confidence trick to the most sophisticated high-tech online fraud, it pays to keep up to date with the latest news and advice.
“Pop along for advice and useful information about fraud and cyber crime. You’ll also have the opportunity to speak to staff and volunteers about any concerns you may have.”
Steps you can take to reduce the risk of cybercrime include never sharing passwords or personal details and make sure passwords cannot easily be guessed.
Regularly update all devices and apps and install anti-virus software and a firewall.
