At approximately 07h15, while on patrol along Chris Hani Road, Marshall Security Armed Response Officers identified an individual behaving suspiciously outside a business premises.
Based on the suspicious behaviour observed, backup was requested, and the individual was approached, who began to appear nervous. When questioned about the contents, the suspect claimed it contained scrap material.
Upon inspection, this was found to be untrue, as the box contained a relatively new trolley jack.
During further questioning, multiple conflicting explanations were provided regarding the origin of the item, none of which could be verified, and the suspect was immediately apprehended.
SAPS were notified and arrived shortly thereafter. The suspect was handed over, transported to Greenwood Park SAPS, and formally charged.
It is unclear at this stage where the trolley jack was stolen from. Marshall Security urges business owners in the area that, should they have fallen victim to any theft incident where a trolley jack was stolen, to please report the matter to SAPS.
This incident highlights the importance of proactive patrols and alert officers in identifying suspicious behaviour and preventing property-related crime.
