The breach was the result of a ransomware attack carried out by a threat group known as Play. On March 2, 2026, the Play ransomware group posted a claim on the dark web, stating that it had obtained data belonging to Project Consulting Services.
The Play group claimed to possess a wide range of information from the company including private and personal confidential data, client documents, budget information, payroll records, IDs, tax documents and financial information, according to the group’s claims. The threat group also stated that it intended to publish the stolen data within four days of its posting.
According to the company’s regulatory disclosure, the consumer information confirmed as exposed in this breach included Social Security numbers.
