DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa (WHP) – — Pennsylvania Senator Scott Martin is introducing a resolution to designate the week of August 17-23 as Social Media Safety and Parental Awareness Week.
The effort comes as a response to concerns over deepfake images at schools, child sextortion and AI generated pornography.
Sen. Martin said the state wanted to go beyond passing laws criminalizing these images, and focus on prevention by giving parents and educators the resources they need to talk to students about online dangers.
“In this world where kids have access, so much each access to these devices and being online, and just the explosion of social media and who they’ve connected with around the world, it’s very important that we share the do’s and don’ts,” Sen. Martin said.
If the resolution passes, the Capitol would also be lit blue.
