Story Highlights • The annual Child Safety Expo will be held Friday, Sept. 11 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Cadillac Fire Department, located at 200 North Lake St.
CADILLAC — Keeping children safe is a top priority and on Sept. 11, an event in Cadillac aims to help parents and community members do just that.
The annual Child Safety Expo, hosted by the Cadillac Fire Department, will be held from 4 to 6 p.m.
During the event, kids will be able to participate in a number of fun activities while their parents learn about the various services available in the area to keep them safe and healthy.
The event will be held at the fire department, located at 200 North Lake St. and free food will be given away to attendees.
There also will be a fire safety trailer onsite that kids can use to practice escaping from a simulated smoke-filled home.
In addition, kids will be able to explore a real fire engine, safety gear and equipment to learn about what is needed to put out a fire. They’ll be able to sit in a fire engine, practice trying on firefighting gear and spray a real fire hose.
A mobile vaccination clinic will be onsite, along with booths on cyber security, first aid and car seat safety checks.
Vision screenings and child identification kits also will be available. The Cadillac Lions Club is providing the vision screenings and the Freemasons are providing the child ID kits.
Each kit includes an inkless fingerprint kit, DNA collection kits and wallet information cards. The kits contain all the vital information necessary to expedite law enforcement efforts to locate a missing child.
Police K-9 officers and therapy dogs also will be in attendance and kids will be able to meet with them and learn about pet care, safety and the importance of their jobs. “PUP” the fire dog and Smokey Bear also will be making appearances.
Also during the expo, more than 50 local human services agencies will be distributing information on child safety, community resources, services and opportunities.
A bike raffle also will be held during the expo, along with games for kids and giveaways.
The expo will be held rain or shine.
