Child Safety Minister Amanda Camm, who is facing pressure over revelations that children in state care were sleeping on the floor at child safety service centres, has been hospitalised.
Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie confirmed on Wednesday that the Mackay MP was admitted to hospital on Tuesday to be treated for chronic migraines.
The revelation follows the emergence of reports on Saturday about the sleeping conditions of some children in state care.
Housing Minister Sam O’Connor confirmed Camm was present at cabinet on Monday. She has still not spoken publicly about the sleeping arrangements.
Treasurer David Janetzki was also asked to comment on the matter on Monday, and said he would leave that to Camm.
Camm did share a video to Facebook on Wednesday morning confirming she had been in hospital and was receiving specialist treatment.
“Those close to me know I’ve lived with migraines for a long time,” she said. “It’s a condition that isn’t often talked about, and it’s so much more than ‘just a headache’.
“I know many professionals, including colleagues, who also live with chronic migraines while continuing to perform at the highest level. I hope we can keep having more open conversations about this often invisible condition.”
