FOSTER CITY, CA — The Foster City City Council unanimously adopted a resolution Monday night, declaring that the town is in the midst of an emergency following a ransomware attack last week.
Officials said they took most of their computer systems offline last week after detecting suspicious activity on their network.
“We are engaging with independent cybersecurity specialists to assist with the investigation and remediation,” stated Austin Walsh, Foster City communications manager. “However, the City has already taken measures to maintain continuity of essential services.
Walsh stated that 911 operations in Foster City were up and running and emergency response personnel were available.
City Hall remains open to the public, but limited services are available during this period, Walsh stated.
Officials said the city would release a statement once the incident is fully resolved.
