Coca-Cola’s fast-growing milk business just ran into a very modern problem: ransomware. The company disclosed to the SEC that its Fairlife dairy subsidiary was hit by a cyberattack that took down production systems and has halted operations across the US, with no clear timeline for a restart, Inc. reports. Fairlife, which Coca-Cola fully bought in 2020, has ballooned from about $10 million in retail value in 2014 to almost $4 billion in 2025—making it an increasingly important piece of Coke’s portfolio, and, experts say, an inviting target.
Security specialists tell Inc. that food and beverage makers have become prime ransomware marks because even short shutdowns can ripple through supply chains, retailers, and revenue. Unlike standard IT, factory systems rely on older industrial hardware and software that aren’t easily rebooted or secured, and attackers often get in through stolen credentials or remote access tools rather than exotic hacks. Past attacks on Arizona Beverages and distributor UNFI triggered weeks-long disruptions; for now, it’s unknown how long Fairlife products could be scarce. “Product quality and safety have not been impacted,” Coca-Cola said in a statement, per ABC News and CBS News. “The full scope, nature and impacts of the incident are not yet known.”
