McLaren Health Care says a recent ransomware attack may have exposed patients’ data on the dark web.

MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) – McLaren Health Care says a recent ransomware attack could have leaked some patient data onto the dark web.

Ransomware gang BlackCat/AlphV claimed responsibility for the attack last week.

The group says it stole 6 terabytes of the health system’s data, including personal information for 2.5 million patients.

McLaren Health Care released a statement saying it has taken steps to “further strengthen our cybersecurity posture with a focus on further securing our systems and limiting disruption to our patients and the communities we serve.”

McLaren has its headquarters in Grand Blanc Township. The company owns hospitals in Flint, Lapeer, Bay City, Port Huron and elsewhere across the Midwest.
