MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Ransomware was detected in the Iowa County computer network system after Iowa County Emergency Management reported suspicious activity last month.
The suspicious activity was first noticed on April 28. The County took its systems offline as a precaution.
Iowa County Emergency Management said Friday that officials have been working with cybersecurity experts to investigate.
Iowa Co. officials said the overall scope of the ransomware is still being determined, as well as the nature of it.
Rebuilding and restoring the computer network environment will take time, and Iowa Co. Emergency Management said there may be delays in its ability to fill requests and provide information.
“While we work on restoring the county to full capacity, we are also partnering with experts to further bolster our security and determine what information was impacted,” Iowa County Emergency Management said. “We appreciate your patience.”
Last month, the department said agency access to services like email or other online systems may be delayed.
