RAPIDES PARISH, La. (KALB) – Rapides District Attorney Phillip Terrell will reportedly prosecute a suspected child predator who was arrested by a joint operation between the Alexandria Police Department, Louisiana State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
According to FBI New Orleans, the suspect is one of four people arrested within Louisiana as part of ‘Operation Restore Justice,’ an initiative to arrest child predators.
In April, which is known as Child Abuse Prevention Month, the FBI reportedly efforted the arrest of 205 suspects and rescued 115 children across the United States over the course of the operation.
FBI New Orleans said APD and LSP assisted the FBI with Operation Restore Justice, and their teamwork led to the arrest of three suspects.
Of those suspects, one faced state charges and will reportedly be charged by the Rapides Parish District Attorney’s Office.
On May 9, KALB spoke with Rapides DA Phillip Terrell about operation ‘Restore Justice’ and learned more about their case against the suspect.
“The penalties are dependent on the age of the child, he could receive 10 years for the carnal knowledge of a juvenile, 25 years for the indecent behavior, and more than 20 years for the computer-aided solicitation,” said Terrell. “Those are obviously very serious penalties.”
Terrell said the DA’s office takes these kinds of cases seriously and will work hard to prosecute the suspect.
“We’re going to be as aggressive as we can be, and in representing our victims…and protecting the public as vigorously as we can,” said Terrell.
