Social media company Reddit has accused Communications Minister Anika Wells of writing new rules for Labor’s under-16 social media age ban as a patch-up job to boost its defence of the ban under challenge in the High Court.
Reddit, which lodged the constitutional challenge, submitted that rules Wells wrote in March 2025, defining which platforms would be targeted, were a “belated attempt to narrow the purpose and create an otherwise missing link” between the law’s protective purpose and the heavy-handed banning of children from having accounts.
