Reed Academy has been named a 2026 STAR (Secure Today, Aware and Ready) Award recipient by the Harris County Department of Education’s Center for Safe and Secure Schools.
The award recognizes schools and districts that demonstrate excellence in safety practices, emergency preparedness, and proactive campus leadership.
Reed Academy was selected as a Champion of Safety following a recent safety audit and engagement conducted by the Center for Safe and Secure Schools. The review highlighted the campus’s strong leadership and proactive approach to creating a safe and supportive learning environment for students and staff.
The campus will be formally recognized during the Safety Summit on June 18 at Houston City College-Northeast Campus.
Reed Academy Principal Delilah St. Julian said the recognition reflects the shared commitment of the entire campus community.
“Safety is not something we do once — it is something we practice, protect and prioritize every day,” St. Julian said. “This award belongs to our students, staff, and families who work together to keep Reed Academy secure, aware, and ready. We are honored to be recognized and proud to make safety part of our #AldineStory.”
The Center for Safe and Secure Schools supports regional K-12 school districts through safety and security audits aligned with Texas Education Agency requirements. The process includes reviewing key areas of emergency management: prevention and mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. St. Julian said Assistant Principal Rhonda Odom-Thomas has been instrumental in helping ensure safety remains at the forefront of campus operations and credited her ongoing dedication to maintaining Reed Academy’s culture of preparedness.
While much of school safety work happens behind the scenes, its impact is felt every day in classrooms, hallways, and across campus. This recognition affirms Reed Academy’s commitment to maintaining a safe environment where students can learn, grow, and thrive.
