Prosecutors said Trinidad Guzman groomed three girls from the same family and exposed himself during FaceTime calls.
BEEVILLE, Texas — A registered sex offender from New Mexico has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges stemming from allegations that he targeted three Bee County girls from the same family and exposed himself to them during FaceTime calls.
Trinidad Guzman was sentenced Monday after Judge Boyd Bauer accepted his guilty pleas, according to the 156th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors said Guzman gained the family’s trust before targeting the three children. The district attorney’s office said he groomed the girls and exposed himself to them during FaceTime calls.
The case ended in a plea agreement negotiated by First Assistant District Attorney Michelle Craig. Prosecutors said the agreement meant the three girls would not have to testify at trial. The children had expressed anxiety about appearing in court and having to recount what happened, according to the district attorney’s office.
Guzman faced charges including indecency with a child by exposure and online solicitation of a minor. Prosecutors said his prior criminal history allowed for a longer sentence than those charges would typically carry.
The court also issued lifetime protective orders for the three children and their parents. Guzman will remain a registered sex offender for life, according to prosecutors.
“This family was fractured by the actions of a child predator,” District Attorney Tiffany McWilliams said. “Justice in a case like this is not simply about the number of years imposed. It is also about protecting victims from further trauma, holding offenders accountable, and doing everything within the law to protect other children.”
The district attorney’s office credited Texas Ranger Justin Cuellar and Bee County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Jamie Pelfrey with investigating the case.
