US cybersecurity company Resecurity has signed a memorandum of understanding with Ecuador’s National Cybercrime Unit, known as CiberPOL, to strengthen cooperation on the detection, investigation, and prosecution of cybercrime.
The agreement establishes a framework for the two organizations to exchange cyber threat intelligence, provide technical assistance, and collaborate on cybersecurity technologies and training.
The memorandum was signed by Jorge Chungandro, Resecurity’s business development manager for Latin America, and Lieutenant Colonel Héctor Gonzalo García Cataña, head of Ecuador’s National Cybercrime Unit.
Under the agreement, Resecurity and CiberPOL will cooperate on areas including cyber threat intelligence, early-warning capabilities, AI-based analysis and specialized training.
The partnership is also expected to include technical workshops, seminars, practical exercises, and knowledge-sharing initiatives for CiberPOL personnel.
“Effective cybercrime investigations depend on timely intelligence, trusted cooperation, and continuously evolving technical expertise,” Chungandro said. He added that the agreement would provide CiberPOL with access to Resecurity’s cyber threat intelligence capabilities, technologies, and technical expertise.
The partnership comes as law enforcement agencies across Latin America face a growing range of cyber-enabled crimes, including online fraud, unauthorized network access, data theft, and other forms of digital exploitation.
Expanding Cybercrime Cooperation
CiberPOL is a specialized unit within Ecuador’s National Police responsible for preventing and investigating cybercrime and supporting the prosecution of offenses involving information technologies.
The unit works with Ecuadorian judicial and prosecutorial authorities on cybercrime investigations and also cooperates with international law enforcement organizations. Its activities include investigations into online fraud, data theft, and other digital crimes, as well as efforts to combat the online exploitation of children.
For law enforcement agencies, access to timely cyber threat intelligence can help investigators identify infrastructure and accounts associated with criminal activity, track emerging threats, and support investigations that extend beyond national borders.
The agreement with Resecurity is intended to provide CiberPOL with additional technical capabilities and training while establishing a framework for continued public-private cooperation.
US-Ecuador Cybersecurity Cooperation
The agreement also comes amid broader cybersecurity cooperation between the United States and Ecuador.
In 2025, Ecuador’s National Computer Emergency Response Team hosted CIBEREC 2025, an annual cyber defense exercise that brought together cybersecurity specialists from Ecuador and US technology companies, including Palo Alto Networks, Check Point, and Resecurity.
Ecuador’s Armed Forces also conducted a cyber-range exercise focused on military networks and operations. The exercise, supported by US instructors, was designed to strengthen the country’s ability to detect, defend against, and respond to cyber threats affecting military systems.
