Roblox has reportedly reached a settlement with the Kansas Attorney General’s Office over child safety concerns on the platform. According to local broadcaster KMBC, the agreement includes more than $10 million in financial commitments and requires Roblox to implement or maintain additional safeguards for younger users.
Under the reported terms, Roblox will pay $9.8 million to the Attorney General’s Office over three years and fund a $500,000 public-awareness campaign in Kansas. The agreement also provides for $10 million in damages if Roblox fails to comply with its terms.
The safety measures include age assurance, age-grouped chat by default, stronger parental controls, restrictions on Robux transfers and tighter controls over communication between users. Roblox will also appoint a Kansas-based law-enforcement specialist and a professional with experience in child internet safety to oversee and coordinate relevant policies.
Kobach said the settlement was intended to reduce situations in which children could be directed into conversations with strangers and then moved onto other platforms where parents have less visibility. Roblox already operates age-specific accounts, parental controls and chat filters, but it has faced growing scrutiny from state and local authorities in the US over child safety on the platform.
