Roblox is introducing new age-based account categories for younger users as part of a broader push to strengthen safety and control how children interact on the platform.
The company said users will be automatically placed into different account types based on age, verified either through its age-check system or parental input. Children aged roughly 5 to 8 will be assigned “Roblox Kids” accounts, while those between 9 and 15 will use “Roblox Select” accounts. Users above that age will continue on standard accounts.
Under the new system, younger users will face tighter restrictions. “Kids” accounts will only be able to access games with lower content ratings and will have chat disabled by default, with limited exceptions controlled by parents. “Select” accounts will allow access to slightly broader content and gradually enable communication features based on age.

The rollout, expected to begin globally in early June, is part of a wider overhaul that also includes stricter content moderation and new requirements for developers whose games are accessible to younger audiences. These include identity verification, enhanced security measures, and additional review processes.
The move comes as Roblox faces increasing scrutiny from regulators and policymakers over child safety on online platforms. Governments in several regions have raised concerns about exposure to inappropriate content and interactions, prompting calls for tighter controls and, in some cases, restrictions on youth access to social and gaming platforms.
Roblox said the changes are aimed at aligning content, communication, and parental controls more closely with users’ age, while allowing accounts to automatically transition to less restrictive settings as children grow older.
