MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine government has no plans to ban Roblox, officials said Tuesday, April 7, and instead will press the platform for stronger child safety measures amid mounting concerns over online sexual abuse and exploitation of children.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) met with Roblox representatives, law enforcement and private sector groups on April 7 to hash out stronger protections for young Filipino users.

Roblox, according to a DICT statement, had promised Philippine government officials they’d enforce stricter monitoring and age-appropriate content controls on their platform.

The platform will also launch an information campaign on April 12 to walk parents through its safety tools, including parental controls for monitoring screen time, setting spending limits, blocking inappropriate content and filtering experiences by age rating.

Last month, the CICC gave Roblox 30 days to address concerns that pedophiles and drug traffickers were using the platform as “hunting grounds” for underage users. It also threatened a total nationwide block if the company failed to respond.
