Rockstar confirms limited data breach tied to third-party service as hackers threaten to release GTA 6 information

Rockstar Games has confirmed a data breach linked to a third-party service, following claims by a hacking group that it accessed company information and may release it publicly.

Reports from cybersecurity researchers indicate that the group ShinyHunters alleged it gained access to Rockstar systems through a third-party provider, with links to the cloud analytics platform Snowflake.

The breach is believed to involve Anodot, a software-as-a-service platform used for monitoring and analytics.

In a statement provided to media outlets, Rockstar said “a limited amount of non-material company information was accessed in connection with a third-party data breach” and added that the incident has “no impact on our organisation or our players.”

The company’s response suggests that the breach did not directly target Rockstar’s internal systems but instead occurred through an external service provider.

According to reports, ShinyHunters issued a message on its leak platform demanding payment, with a deadline of April 14, and threatened to publish the data if its demands are not met.

The claims and materials associated with the alleged breach have largely circulated on the Tor network, and their authenticity remains unverified.

The data involved is believed to relate to corporate information rather than game assets. Reports suggest it may include internal marketing plans for GTA 6, though there is no indication that source code or gameplay data has been compromised.

ShinyHunters has previously been linked to multiple breaches involving global companies, often targeting third-party platforms to gain access to sensitive data.

This incident follows a previous breach in 2022 involving the group Lapsus$, which resulted in leaked materials and financial impact for the company.

Rockstar has not provided further details on the scope of the breach or any additional security measures taken since the incident.
