Rubrik has rolled out new programme and platform features for managed service providers (MSPs), focusing on pay-as-you-go licensing, partner tiering, and 24/7 ransomware response support.
The updates span Rubrik Security Cloud and its partner programme. Rubrik also outlined plans for an “earned” designation called Rubrik Verified, positioned as a benchmark of operational maturity for service providers.
The changes come as organisations face higher ransomware risk, tougher compliance demands, and a shortage of cyber security staff. As a result, many companies rely on external providers for backup, recovery, and incident response.
Rubrik cited an estimate that the global market for data protection and cyber recovery services delivered through MSPs will reach $258 billion by 2027. It said the latest changes are designed to help service providers expand cyber resilience offerings and standardise delivery across customer environments.
Pricing shift
A central change is consumption-based licensing for MSPs. Rubrik MSP PayGo starts with no minimum commitment, with an option to move to contractual arrangements as partners grow.
Subscription and usage models are increasingly common across infrastructure and security software, allowing providers to align service delivery costs with customer billing cycles. MSPs often package backup and recovery as a recurring service rather than a one-off deployment.
Rubrik also introduced a new tiering structure within its partner programme. The tiers are meant to reflect different levels of commitment and performance standards, but Rubrik did not disclose the criteria, thresholds, or benefits for each tier.
Incident support
MSP partners now get 24/7 access to Rubrik’s Ransomware Response Team. Rubrik said the service is intended to provide expert support during incidents and improve readiness and response.
The announcements also include support for hybrid tenancy models through an MSP Console, which Rubrik said provides unified control, centralised oversight, and governance across environments.
Hybrid models are common for MSPs, which often manage a mix of customer-owned infrastructure, hosted environments, and cloud services. Centralised management tools can reduce operational friction when providers run standard playbooks across different deployment types.
Rubrik pointed to a Gartner report arguing that services-based approaches are becoming more important for backup and data protection. The report said: “As organizations continue to transition from capital-heavy deployments to consumption-based models, services allow organizations to scale protection instantly without managing physical capacity. Heads of I&O must adopt services to achieve centralized management, uniform data protection and to drive operational cost-efficiencies.”
Verified status
Another element is Rubrik Verified, described as an earned designation for MSPs. Rubrik said it will recognise operational maturity and reduce friction during enterprise evaluations.
The new MSP programme features are available now, while Rubrik Verified is scheduled for Summer 2026.
Alok Agrawal, Rubrik’s chief solutions officer, said demand has shifted from periodic projects to ongoing service delivery.
“Cyber resilience has shifted from a model of transactional participation to continuous execution. Enterprises face the challenges of talent scarcity, regulatory requirements, hybrid complexity, and increased accountability, which puts MSPs front and center to meet growing demand,” said Alok Agrawal, Chief Solutions Officer, Rubrik.
Partner reaction
Several service providers and partners highlighted the focus on recovery execution during ransomware incidents and the role of managed operations.
“Faced with a ransomware event, the ability to quickly execute on restoring from last known good restoration points is the difference between resilience and failure,” said Alvaro Gonzalez, VP of Global Alliances, Assured Data Protection. “Our ability to deliver a hybrid tenant model, spanning devices that the customer has previously purchased from a VAR and as-a-service offerings from Assured gives customers the options to focus on their critical business outcomes instead of licensing models.”
Harbor Solutions pointed to the emphasis on outcomes and operational readiness.
“Cyber resilience isn’t proven by the tools you buy. It’s proven by the outcomes you can deliver under pressure. Customers want recovery that is repeatable, isolated where needed, and runs 24/7 by a team that’s done it before,” said James Harris, CEO, Harbor Solutions.
Rackspace said the partner programme changes support delivery at scale.
“When a ransomware event unfolds, there is no margin for hesitation,” said Mark Martinet, technology senior vice president of strategic alliance partnerships at Rackspace. “The evolution of the Rubrik Transform Partner Program strengthens our ability to deliver operational cyber resilience at scale and ensures our joint offerings provide customers with industry leading recovery capabilities that sustain business continuity.”
