Rubrik Unveils Google Cloud AI and SQL Security Tools
Rubrik on Wednesday used Google Cloud Next to announce two Google Cloud-focused product moves built around a common theme: extending security, governance and recovery controls to newer cloud application layers. One announcement targeted AI agent operations on Google Cloud, while the other added cyber resilience features for organizations running Google Cloud SQL. Together, the launches position Rubrik around both sides of a current enterprise challenge — governing emerging AI workloads and protecting business-critical operational data.
The company introduced Rubrik Agent Cloud for Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, which Rubrik said is intended to help organizations secure and accelerate AI agent deployments on Google Cloud. The firm also introduced cyber resilience capabilities for Google Cloud SQL through Rubrik Security Cloud, aimed at protecting managed PostgreSQL databases with immutable backups and recovery options
Rubrik framed the launches as part of a broader effort to reduce security and governance friction as enterprises expand both AI and cloud data estates. For the AI side, the company described Rubrik Agent Cloud as a way to replace manual controls with real-time guardrails for customers using Google technologies including Gemini Enterprise and Vertex AI. For the data protection side, Rubrik described the Google Cloud SQL integration as a way to close backup and recovery gaps for transactional workloads in sectors such as e-commerce, banking and healthcare.
AI Agent Governance on Google Cloud
Rubrik said its new Rubrik Agent Cloud integration for Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform adds what it called a unified control layer for AI agent operations. According to the company, the integration is powered by its Semantic AI Governance Engine, or SAGE, which is designed to monitor, govern and remediate AI actions in real time. Rubrik said the offering is intended to help organizations move AI agents into production while maintaining policy enforcement and operational oversight.
Documented capabilities in the release include agent inventory, which Rubrik said can autodiscover agents running on Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform Runtime and provide visibility into risk, access permissions and policy violations. The company also highlighted an “Agent Rewind” feature, described as a way to undo an autonomous agent’s destructive action, and a unified AI control pane that lets administrators manage AI security policies from the same Rubrik platform used for Google Workspace and hybrid cloud data. In the press release, Google Cloud Vice President of Applied AI & Platform Ecosystem Satish Thomas said Rubrik provides “a unified control layer for agent deployment and security that is critical for AI success.”
Rubrik tied the announcement to expected enterprise adoption of task-specific AI agents, citing a Gartner forecast that 40% of enterprise applications will be integrated with such agents by the end of 2026. The company said the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform integration is meant to address that shift by adding semantic governance and operational resilience to AI agent deployments. Information provided by a spokesperson also said the broader Rubrik Agent Cloud effort for Google Cloud encompasses Vertex AI and Gemini Enterprise, with features including autodiscovery, agent rewind and a unified AI control plane.
Cyber Resilience for Google Cloud SQL
On the data protection side, Rubrik said Rubrik Security Cloud now offers cyber resilience capabilities for organizations running Google Cloud SQL. The company said the integration protects managed PostgreSQL databases with automated, immutable backups that work alongside existing database operations and disaster recovery strategies. Rubrik positioned the release as a way to add enterprise cyber resilience controls without requiring customers to change their database architecture.
Rubrik listed several product features for the Google Cloud SQL integration, including unified management across Cloud SQL, Google Workspace, Google Compute Engine and Google Kubernetes Engine; automated discovery of new Cloud SQL instances; immutable backups with no retention-period limit; storage-class flexibility across Archive, Coldline and Nearline; and tag-based SLA policies for retention and compliance. The company also said the offering supports rapid cross-region recovery at scale, which it presented as part of a broader ransomware and disaster recovery posture for cloud database customers.
The company linked the launch to ongoing customer concerns about cloud data security and management complexity. Rubrik cited findings from Rubrik Zero Labs saying 90% of IT and security leaders reported cyberattacks in the previous year and 35% of IT leaders identified securing data across varied ecosystems as their top challenge. Rubrik said the Google Cloud SQL release is aimed at regulated and data-intensive environments that are scaling managed databases and need centralized protection, recovery and policy enforcement.
Taken together, the two launches show Rubrik extending its portfolio in parallel directions at Google Cloud Next: into AI control and remediation for agentic systems, and into backup and recovery for managed cloud databases. While the products address different layers of the stack, Rubrik cast both as governance and resilience plays designed to help customers manage operational risk as they expand cloud and AI usage. The company pointed to its Google Cloud protection materials for more information and to the Google Cloud Next event, running April 22-24 in Las Vegas.
