SAN PABLO — A 37-year-old man has been sentenced to 31 years and four months in state prison for using a machete to hack a woman to death and then setting her body on fire, court records show.
William Stanley Ramirez, of San Pablo, pleaded no contest to manslaughter and arson in the July 2, 2024 killing of 40-year-old Angelina Rincon. He was transferred to North Kern State Prison in late April, with credit for the almost two years he spent in jail while his case was pending, court records show.
Ramirez killed Rincon at a homeless encampment where he lived, near the 1900 block of Road 20, San Pablo police said at the time. Police learned of the homicide when emergency responders came out to a plume of smoke at the encampment, which turned out to be the arson of Rincon’s body.
Within two weeks of the killing, police identified Ramirez as a suspect and arrested him, records show.
Ramirez was originally charged with murder, but that count was dismissed through the plea deal. In 2024, the case was put on hold while doctors evaluated Ramirez’s mental competency to stand trial, but he was found competent by the year’s end. His murder trial would have started in June if not for the plea deal.
A GoFundMe Page in Rincon’s memory says she left behind a daughter and was one of five siblings.
“Angelina’s generosity, unpredictability, and a free spirit will be incredibly missed,” the page says. “Her unexpected departure has left an irreplaceable void in our hearts and lives.”
