Sandwich 430 seeks tax increase for school safety improvements | #schoolsaftey #kids #parents #children

The Sandwich 430 School District is asking voters to approve a tax rate increase to help pay for state-mandated health, life and safety improvements at its schools.Superintendent Ryan Janisch says the district could pay for the work by taking out a loan, but that would mean paying more in interest and fees. The other option is raising the tax rate, which requires voter approval.”Over four million dollars of local taxpayer dollars will all go to interest during that ten year time frame. In the other model, it’s not a loan at all. We just increased the revenue that the district is getting and in that model, no money is going to interest over that time. It’s the is the same impact or similar impact on taxpayers, but their dollars are gonna stay local to support the district versus, in the other model, it will go to, the bank in terms of interest.”

Janisch says the district has to complete the improvements either way. The question is how the district will choose to pay for them.He says both options would result in similar tax increases of about $10 to $20 a month for homes valued between $100,000 and $200,000.More information on the referendum can be found by clicking here. You can hear the full interview with Superintendent Ryan Janisch Monday morning during the 9 o’clock hour on 107.1 WSPY.
