Saratoga County District Attorney Brett Eby told NewsChannel 13 he is bringing together experts in law enforcement, child protective services, medical and mental health providers and educators to review systemic issues that put children at risk.
Eby said the goal is to develop reforms before cases reach prosecutors, like the prosecution of the parents of 3-year-old Joycelynn Dylewski. He said the commission is being formed now and will meet later this summer.
“To make sure that we can prevent something like this from ever happening again,” said Brett Eby. “Oftentimes as a prosecutor its often too late when we get involved. There’s been a child that’s been badly hurt or killed so one of my goals here is to be more preventative and get the community together to prevent further tragedies.”
Eby said every child deserves to grow up safe. He expects the commission to make recommendations to local agencies and policymakers later this year.
