SARATOGA COUNTY, N.Y. — Saratoga County District Attorney Brett R. Eby has reached more than 1,000 seniors through educational presentations across Saratoga County aimed at helping older adults recognize, avoid, and protect themselves against scams and financial exploitation, his office announced on Friday.
With more than 1,000 seniors have participated to date, Eby’s office said.
Through presentations at senior centers, community centers, retired teachers’ associations, women’s clubs, and Albany Law School, Eby “has made educating seniors about the growing threat of scams a key component of his office’s commitment to public safety,” the announcement said.
The office said that the presentations “focus on identifying common scams targeting older adults, recognizing warning signs, and providing practical tools and strategies seniors can use to protect themselves and their finances.” Additionally, the office said, “Eby also shares examples of actual cases in the local area in which seniors have been targeted and exploited, demonstrating how these crimes occur and how individuals can take steps to avoid becoming victims.”

“My goal is to give seniors the knowledge and tools they need to recognize these scams and protect themselves before they become victims,” said Eby in a prepared statement. “These presentations provide practical information, real-world examples, and steps people can take to safeguard themselves. I am especially encouraged when seniors follow up to tell me that something they learned during a presentation helped them recognize a scam and avoid becoming a victim.”
The program is part of Eby’s broader initiative to expand the Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office’s public education and crime prevention efforts, his office said. “By increasing awareness and providing residents with the information they need to recognize potential threats, the office aims to prevent crimes before they happen and help protect some of the community’s most vulnerable residents,” the office said.
“Education is one of our most effective tools in preventing crime,” Eby added. “By helping people understand how these scams work and what they can do to protect themselves, we can make a real difference in our county.”
