KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho (CBS2) — A security company’s owner has been found guilty of battery following an incident where his security team dragged a woman out of a Kootenai town hall earlier this year, and apprehended two other people.
The Coeur d’Alene Press reports that Paul Trouette, the owner of Lear Asset Management, has been found guilty of two counts of battery and misdemeanors for security agent violations following a trial this week.
The charges stem from an incident earlier this year at a Kootenai town hall where his security team forcibly removed Teresa Borenpholl and apprehended several others. Trouette was acquitted of wrongdoing against Borrenpohl, a local activist who was removed for shouting during the event. However, the jury found him guilty of battering a man and a woman who intervened, telling security agents to release Borrenpohl. According to one of the men who testified this week, Lear Asset Management did not have a formal contract for the event. Earlier this month, several security guards who were employed through Lear Asset had their charges dropped. In November, Idaho’s Attorney General Raul Labrador announced that he would not be charging Sheriff Bob Norris with any charges.
The jury dismissed Trouette’s defense that he acted under the legal direction of Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris.
