A widely circulated video reportedly shows Zone Watch security guards assaulting a man walking in the street. District Watch, a separate security company, was called to assist; however, despite public criticism, there is no indication that it was involved in the alleged incident.
District Watch owner Pierre Gouws told VOC News that he strongly condemns the actions attributed to Zone Watch, emphasising that all security personnel — including his own — must be held accountable for their conduct.

Zone Watch has since issued a statement distancing itself from the behaviour seen in the video and confirming that an internal investigation is underway.
“We are deeply concerned about what has occurred. The behaviour in the footage is unacceptable and does not reflect the values and standards we uphold as a company,” the statement read.
Reports further indicate that the Zone Watch members involved have been suspended pending the outcome of the internal investigation.
VOC News also contacted South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Colonel André Traut, who confirmed that the matter is under police investigation.
“All available leads are currently being pursued. The victim has not yet been interviewed as part of the investigation. The violent conduct displayed in the video by the security personnel involved is viewed in a serious light. As the investigation progresses, more information will be released at a later stage,” Traut said.
