LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Charles Booker’s campaign was the most recent target by foreign hackers in a cyberattack attempting to gain access to campaign communications and the senate hopeful’s website, resulting in reports of one staffer’s Signal account being breached in the past couple months according to a Facebook post from Booker. In a statement, Booker said that the FBI along with additional law enforcement agencies are already involved and taking steps to secure the campaign’s private systems and data. This new development follows another recent cyberattack on the Federal Election Commission that temporarily disrupted online filing systems. The statement claims that recent election cycles have been plagued by foreign adversary intervention, including those from Russia, and that those efforts have increased closer to the time of the election in order to sow chaos and mistrust in the election’s security.
“The fact that foreign actors attempted to hack and infiltrate our campaign systems so close to the election is only proof that we’re in a position to win. Our enemies, both domestic and abroad, don’t want to see this campaign succeed and are scared. These types of desperate measures will not stop our campaign for the people of Kentucky,” said Charles Booker. “We’re please that these threats have been neutralized, and we remain on track to continue at full throttle ahead of Election Day.”Booker’s full statement can be found below or on his Facebook page.
