A Democratic senator has asked the US Commerce Department for information about how it is addressing “potential national security concerns” created by a Chinese Bitcoin mining manufacturer, following a Bloomberg News report in November that the company has been the focus of a federal investigation.
Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts sent a letter Thursday to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick seeking documents and other information about Bitmain Technologies Ltd., a Beijing-based venture that sells most of the world’s Bitcoin-mining rigs. The Commerce Department did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.
