Senator Natasha Arraigned For Alleged Cybercrime, Granted Bail | #cybercrime | #infosec


Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti‑Uduaghan pleaded not guilty on Monday before the Federal High Court in Abuja to six counts of alleged defamation and cybercrime under the Cybercrime Prohibition Act .

She is accused of making damaging false statements against Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Governor Yahaya Bello. 

Akpoti‑Uduaghan was represented by Prof. Roland Otaru (SAN), who successfully argued for her bail on self‑recognition. Justice Mohammed Umar granted it, with trial adjourned to September 22, 2025. 

In court, she refuted the allegations, insisting her statements were valid political commentary . The federal government contends that her remarks violate Section 24(2)(c) of the Cybercrimes Act, which bans spread of false info injurious to reputations and public order. 

Akpoti‑Uduaghan appeared in court alongside her husband, Emmanuel Uduaghan, activist Aisha Yesufu, and supporters.

The court will continue proceedings in September.
