Seniors educated about Medicare fraud | #datingscams #romancescams

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – Medicare fraud and scams have been estimated to cost between $60 and $100 billion each year.

Especially prevalent are phone calls where callers pose as Medicare representatives, trying to convince older adults to share their personal information.

Here @ Home sits down with Ron Boyd, President and CEO of the Local Office on Aging to discuss how the LOA serves as the local Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) resource center for the Roanoke area.

Listen in to see how they have trained volunteer counselors available who can sit down with seniors and review their plans, or answer questions about their bills.

They can also help detect and report fraud.

  • Call LOA or make an appointment with one of our trained counselors.
  • Call the Virginia SMP at 1-800-938-8885 or visit the Virginia SMP website for help.
  • You can also call 1-800-MEDICARE to report suspected fraud.
