Police say they arrested a registered sexual predator who was caught secretly taking photos of children on a camera disguised as a key fob last week at a Walmart in New Lenox.
Paul Raibley, 61, of Joliet, was charged with three counts of child photography by a sex offender and one count of unauthorized video recording after a Walmart employee reported him secretly taking photos of store patrons July 2 and July 18, according to the New Lenox Police Department.
Police say officers were called to the store July 18 after reports of a man recording children with a key fob device. Store video confirmed Raibley recording people in both instances, and officers found Raibley with the small camera resembling a key fob.
New Lenox police had also responded to the store, 501 E. Lincoln Highway, July 2 after reports a man took a photo under the bottom portion of a woman’s clothes. He left the store after an employee confronted him, police said.
Police said a search of Raibley’s camera and phone uncovered videos of adults and children.
“Additional videos on the phone provided evidence indicating that Raibley possessed additional videos at his residence in Joliet,” police said.
A later searched of his home found “dozens of videos of juveniles in public settings” stored digitally. As of Monday, Raibley was transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility pending a pre-trial detention hearing.
According to the Illinois sex offender registry, Raibley was previously convicted of possessing child pornography. He was registered as a sex offender in 2007.
