A registered sex offender from Grovetown was convicted this week after repeatedly molesting a girl he was related to, with the judge calling him “sick” and sentencing him to life plus 79 years in prison.
After a three-day trial this week, a Columbia County jury convicted 57-year-old Floyd Daniel Agnew Jr. of aggravated child molestation, two counts of child molestation and sexual exploitation.
Authorities say Agnew committed sexual crimes against a minor who he was related to between 2012-2017 in Grovetown, according to District Attorney Natalie Paine. The molestation started when the girl was 11 years old.
At the time, he was a registered sex offender after being on convicted of criminal sexual conduct with a minor in Charleston, South Carolina in 1997.
At sentencing, Judge Grady Blanchard had some harsh words for Agnew as he ordered the maximum.
“If you look up predator in the dictionary, you will see your picture,” the judge reportedly said. “You are one sick individual and I’m the doctor with the cure. I sentence you to prison for the rest of your natural life.”
Judge Blanchard imposed the maximum sentence, including a life sentence plus a total of 79 years.
The Columbia Judicial Circuit was represented by Senior Assistant District Attorney Ashley Muller.
