WestJet says it has made “significant progress” in securing its digital systems following a cybersecurity incident first identified on June 13.
WestJet first acknowledged the issue on June 13, noting that the incident involved internal systems and limited access to the WestJet app.
According to the airline, while access to its website and mobile app has been intermittently affected, flight operations remain unaffected.
In a statement issued June 18, the airline said immediate action was taken after the breach was discovered, including the launch of a full investigation and the engagement of “world class third-party cyber security experts and forensic specialists.”
“We are working as quickly as possible to assess any potential data in scope,” WestJet stated. “Our investigations are ongoing, and we will provide updates as appropriate in the future.”
