EQST White-Hat Hacker Group Demonstrates Its Capabilities

SK Shieldus announced on June 15 that Byunghyun Kim, a senior member of its white-hat hacker group EQST, secured first place in the global artificial intelligence (AI) red team hacking competition, “Judgement Day.”

This competition, co-hosted by AI safety startup Aim Intelligence and the Institute for Artificial Intelligence Safety, was held over approximately eight weeks starting April 6. It focused on evaluating attack techniques that induce AI agents to perform prohibited actions or omit essential safety measures.

The competition comprised eight scenarios reflecting real industrial environments, such as errors in emergency patient classification, distortion of dam water level judgments, and failure to detect abnormal aircraft conditions. Byunghyun Kim achieved the highest results by disrupting AI decision-making through “multimodal prompt injection” attacks that utilized various input types, including images, voice, and video. For example, he embedded misleading phrases within images or forced specific behaviors to make the AI deviate from its original rules.

Junyoung Ma and Shinu Kim, also senior members of EQST, ranked fifth and seventh, respectively, in this competition. EQST has consistently demonstrated its competitiveness as a world-class white-hat hacker organization by achieving results in major domestic and international security competitions, including Pwn2Own Automotive, Black Hat, DEF CON, and Dreamhack Hacking Defense Competition.
