Social media ban: Your questions answered | #childpredator | #kidsaftey | #childsaftey

This week, there was a big announcement affecting kids like you.

On 15 June, Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that under-16s will be banned from major social media platforms.

The new rules are expected to come into place in early 2027 and the government says they’ll make children safer online.

The proposed rules would apply to platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube and Facebook, but messaging apps such as WhatsApp are not expected to be included.

There will also be changes affecting chat functions on video games.

Since the announcement of this ban, you’ve had loads of questions, so we asked the BBC’s cyber reporter Joe Tidy to answer them.
