Some county systems back online following ransomware attack

Mower County has made progress in getting some systems effected by a ransomware attack earlier this week back online.
According to an update by County Administrator Matthew Verdick, some systems have been brought up to speed but not fully.
“Thanks to our efforts, we are pleased to share that there has been some progress over the last few days to securely restore our network and critical public systems, but we do not expect to be fully up and running (Friday),” Verdick said. “We continue working on a phased approach to bring public-facing systems back online so there still may be some delays in processing requests from county residents.”
One sign of the progress is that the county has been able to get its non-emergency number back up and running so people can now call 1-507-437-9400 once again.
IT specialists became aware of the attack in the early morning hours of Wednesday and out of caution took county systems offline as work continued to resolve the issue with the optimistic hope that things might be back to normal on Friday.
However, even as some services remain down, Verdick said that offices are still open and supporting residents.
“We remain grateful for our community’s patience and will continue to provide updates as we work to fully restore services,” Verdick said.
