GALVESTON COUNTY — An international child predator who successfully evaded law enforcement for more than a quarter century is finally behind bars in Texas.Roberto Moran Perez was extradited from Nicaragua and booked into the Galveston County Jail, cutting short a 26-year run from a justice system he thought he had outmatched.Back in 2000, Perez was convicted of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and Indecency with a Child. Facing a combined 26 years of prison time, he vanished before the judge could hand down the sentence. He spent the next two decades living under the radar as an international fugitive, hunting for safety across borders. His run ended after an aggressive global manhunt spearheaded by an INTERPOL Red Notice. Local authorities coordinated with the U.S. Marshals Service, the Department of Justice, and the Department of State to track Perez down and force his return to Texas soil.Perez is now waiting to be transferred to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, where his decades-overdue prison terms finally begin
