ST. LOUIS—St. Louis Public Schools is without a director of public safety weeks before the school year begins.
Terrell Baker resigned from the “critical role”, according to a district statement Wednesday.
Baker joined the district in December 2024. In a LinkedIn post on Sunday, he announced a new position in emergency operations for the Missouri School Boards Association.
“This new role allows me to expand my impact—working with school districts across Missouri… and enhance overall school safety planning,” the post reads.
District officials say they plan to post the position and recruit a qualified replacement.
“We thank Mr. Baker for his service to the district during his tenure,” the statement reads. “Our priority remains ensuring the continued safety and security of our students and staff.”
Baker previously served in the U.S. Navy and Department of Veterans Affairs. He was the Director of Safety and Security for Lindbergh School District until December 2024, when he was named Emergency Operations Program Coordinator with the MSBA.
St. Louis Public Schools begin the academic year Aug. 19.
