ST PAUL, Minn. — The City of St. Paul confirmed both that it was the victim of a ransomware attack and that it has refused to pay the ransom so far.
According to the city, the FBI is leading a criminal investigation parallel to its response.
“We have yet to find any evidence that any data was taken,” said the city in a release. In earlier press conferences regarding the cyber attack, Mayor Melvin Carter had stated that the city maintains very little data on its residents.
In the next phase of the city’s response, 3,500 employees will go through a global password reset, which has been dubbed ‘Operation Secure Saint Paul.’
