Sumner County Schools has pushed back the start of the 2026-27 school year after discovering unauthorized access to its computer network.
The district said it became aware of the cybersecurity incident on July 20 and immediately notified local and federal law enforcement, the Tennessee Department of Education, and third-party forensic specialists to investigate and respond.
School leaders said staff are working around the clock to minimize disruptions, but the incident has forced several changes to the school calendar.
New student registration, originally scheduled to begin last week, has been postponed to Aug. 4-5. Student Registration Nights will also take place Aug. 4-5 and will include registration for new students. Individual schools will provide families with additional details in the coming days.
As a result of the network disruption, the first day of school has been moved to Aug. 10.
Sumner County Schools said it will continue providing updates as more information becomes available.
