The superannuation industry’s fractured response to cybersecurity threats was exposed last month in a sector-wide drill that showed its ability to react to an attack was hamstrung by poor communication and conflicting advice, a year after several major funds were targeted in a co-ordinated hack.
The initial observations from participants in “Project Honeybee”, described by three people with detailed knowledge of it who requested anonymity to discuss the private event, appeared to confirm government fears that splintered security guidance and frameworks had left customers at risk.
