TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Semiconductor back-end equipment maker Grand Process Technology Co. said its information systems were hit by a ransomware attack on Friday.

Data recovery efforts are underway. Potential impact is still under review, according to CNA.

The company said it first detected unusual activity in its information technology systems and subsequently confirmed a ransomware incident. It has since isolated affected systems, strengthened cybersecurity controls, and initiated data recovery procedures.

Grand Process Technology is Taiwan’s largest supplier of advanced wafer packaging equipment. Its business spans engineering contracting, equipment manufacturing and sales, and electronic component production for semiconductor and integrated circuit manufacturing, according to MoneyDJ.

Companies are facing a rising number of cybersecurity incidents. Data from ransomware tracking site Ransomware Live shows 306 active ransomware groups operating last year, affecting a broad range of industries, according to Info Security.

Manufacturing was the most targeted sector, with 930 reported cases. It was followed by the technology sector with 893 cases and healthcare with 529.
