Cybersecurity company Proofpoint has reported a significant uptick in Chinese cyber-espionage campaigns targeting Taiwan’s semiconductor industry. In a report published on July 16, 2025, the firm revealed that between 15 and 20 companies were subjected to intrusion attempts over a period spanning March to June 2025.
The report does not disclose the names of the affected companies or confirm whether the attacks were successful. Victims reportedly include not only small businesses but also “major global firms.”
“We’ve observed attacks against entities that had never been targeted before,” said Mark Kelly, a China-focused threat researcher at Proofpoint. According to the findings, the operations appear to have been carried out by at least three separate groups affiliated with the Chinese government.
