CEBU CITY, Philippines — A 47-year-old man allegedly hacked his former live-in partner after she rejected his attempt to reconcile with him in Talamban, Cebu City on Friday, August 14.
The incident happened at around noon in Sitio Tigbao, Barangay Talamban.
Wanted to reconcile
In a Saturday, August 15 interview, Police Capt. Wilmer M. Castillo, chief of Talamban Police Station said the suspect and the 41-year-old victim were former live-in partners and have children together.
He said the couple had been separated since 2024, after the victim filed a case of violence against women and their children (VAWC) against the suspect.
The suspect was jailed in connection with the VAWC case and had already been released when he allegedly attempted to reconcile with the victim.
However, Castillo said the victim did not want to resume their relationship.

Victim hacked twice
According to the police report, the victim was gathering garden soil with witnesses to fulfill a customer’s order when the suspect allegedly attacked her.
She was putting the garden soil into a sack which she was tying up when the suspect allegedly struck her with a bolo that he had brought with him.
Police said the suspect was allegedly under the influence of intoxicating liquor at the time.
He allegedly hacked the victim twice, hitting her on the back of her head and right shoulder, causing severe injuries.
The victim was immediately brought to a hospital in Cebu City, where she remained confined as of Saturday, August 15.

Suspect arrested
After the attack, the suspect allegedly fled while carrying the bolo, heading toward a river before proceeding in an unknown direction.
A neighbor later sought police assistance around 2:40 p.m., prompting personnel of Talamban Police Station to respond and conduct a hot-pursuit operation.
Police eventually arrested the suspect in Barangay Pulangbato, Cebu City, and brought him to the station for proper disposition.
As of this writing, the suspect remains detained at Talamban Police Station while police prepare to file a case of frustrated murder against him.
