NEW DELHI: In the wake of the escalating conflicts between India and Pakistan, there is an elevated risk of cyberattacks, particularly from state-sponsored advanced persistent threats known for targeting Indian government agencies, military personnel, and critical infrastructure, said the Cyber Crime Wing of the Tamil Nadu Police in a release.The advisory highlighted that the group employs advanced methods including phishing emails, counterfeit login pages, and harmful attachments to obtain unauthorised entry to confidential data. The state government departments have already received warnings about these security risks.“In view of public interest and safety, the Cyber Crime Wing of the Tamil Nadu Police alerts the public about a recent surge in malicious content spreading rapidly through WhatsApp, e-Mail, and Social Media platforms with respect to Indo-Pak conflict,” the release added.The Cyber Crime Wing stated in the release that this content comprises misleading videos, images, ‘.exe/.apk’ files and phishing links presented as news or updates about the current Indo-Pak situation.“Threat actors are exploiting heightened public interest and tension around the situation to target unsuspecting individuals with malware, fake news, and cyber scams,” the Cyber Crime Wing said.The Wing elaborated that these cyber attackers distribute harmful content disguised as exclusive updates, conflict-related visuals, or leaked footage, often containing malware, spyware, or phishing website links. Such content appears as links or images from unknown sources or in Whatsapp/Telegram/other social media groups.The advisory recommended using only verified news channels and social media accounts for Indo-Pak conflict updates. It suggested using fact-checking services to prevent sharing or downloading false sensitive information.The release cautioned against messages or posts claiming to provide sensitive or exclusive news about Indo-Pak conflicts.Wing Commander Vyomika Singh verified that Pakistani forces are advancing towards frontier positions.During a press conference on Saturday, Singh confirmed that India initiated counter-strikes after Pakistan targeted 26 Indian locations. Sporadic exchanges of fire continue at various points along the Line of Control.The Pakistani response follows India’s Operation Sindoor, where Indian forces struck nine terrorist facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on Wednesday. This action was taken in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror incident.
